Global sports footwear maker Puma has partnered with web3 mobile game UNKJD Soccer to expand its footprint in the virtual world. The partnership adds to other attempts by the sportswear maker to explore the web3 world, an indication that it’s committed to venturing deeper into the space.
A “Natural Fit”
According to Puma’s Ivan Dashkov, taking the Puma brand to virtual environments “is critical” to Puma’s success, adding that the web3 game was a “natural fit.” Dashkov disclosed that people are increasingly using digital worlds to express themselves, making it a necessity for Puma to explore such spaces.

UNKJD Soccer’s Tal Friedman described the partnership as a “fantastic opportunity for UNKJD Soccer,” noting that it adds a new dimension to the game. Friedman also noted that they’ll use the partnership to court Puma’s customers.
UNKJD revealed that the partnership will last for two years. Apart from introducing Puma-branded in-game items, there will also be “special Puma tournaments with exclusive rewards.”
Nike and Adidas also Exploring Web3 Space
This isn’t Puma’s first step into the web3 scene. In June last year, for example, it collaborated with NBA star LaMelo Ball to create an NFT collection dubbed GutterMelo MB.03. NFTs in the collection retailed for $175 and gave collectors a chance to order physical Puma shoes.
Puma has also launched a metaverse experience known as Black Station. However, Puma isn’t the only sports footwear maker exploring the digital world. Nike and Adidas have also embarked on web3 missions and have launched NFT collections with Nike launching a web3 platform known as .Swoosh.
With Puma partnering with UNKJD Soccer, it’s to be seen whether its customers will also embrace the game.
