The Indian National Congress (INC) released its second list of 26 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections on Tuesday, December 24, fielding key candidates for the 70-member assembly. The announcement brings the total number of Congress candidates to 47, with strong contenders taking on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and other prominent political figures.
Jangpura assembly seat: Congress fields Farhad Suri against AAP’s Manish Sisodia
In a major development, the Congress has fielded Farhad Suri to challenge AAP leader Manish Sisodia in the Jangpura constituency. Sisodia, who is the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, will now face a tough fight as Suri is expected to bring significant competition.
Ex-AAP MLAs join Congress, contesting from Matia Mahal and Bijwasan
The Congress also gave tickets to former AAP MLAs Asim Khan and Devender Sehrawat. Asim Khan will contest from Matia Mahal, while Devender Sehrawat has been fielded from Bijwasan. Both leaders recently joined the Congress party, marking a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape.

Congress fields prominent leaders from Delhi’s strongholds
Earlier this month, the Congress released its first list of 21 candidates. Among the notable names was former Member of Parliament (MP) Sandeep Dikshit, who will contest from New Delhi, setting up a high-profile contest against AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal. Other prominent leaders from Congress include:
- Devender Yadav, Delhi Congress Chief, from Badli
- Haroon Yusuf, former Delhi Minister, from Ballimaran
- Chaudhary Anil Kumar, ex-Delhi Congress Chief, from Patparganj
- Ragini Nayak, National Spokesperson, from Wazirpur
- Adarsh Shastri from Dwarka

Congress aims to contest all 70 seats in Delhi assembly elections
Following a meeting of the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC), Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin, the party’s Delhi in-charge, confirmed that the party is fully prepared to contest all 70 constituencies in Delhi. While some seats are still pending final approval, the Congress leadership is confident about a strong showing in the February 2025 elections.
The CEC meeting was attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former party President Rahul Gandhi (via video conference), Delhi Chief Devender Yadav, and other senior leaders.
