Auburn football has been hot on the recruiting trail as of late, pulling in many of the nation’s top prospects in an attempt to step back up to prominence in the college football world. Part of the recruiting game comes with decision changes though, which is exactly what happened on Monday.
Former Tigers commit Carde Smith has announced that he will take his talents to play for the USC Trojans in 2025 after he reopened his recruitment in late June.
Smith joined Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class on April 10, and at the time was the team’s third commit along the offensive line with a strong relationship built with offensive line coach Jake Thornton.
Shortly prior to his decision to withdraw his commitment, the offensive tackle visited Los Angeles to tour the campus. Following that announcement, the Trojans immediately offered him, which seemed to be all he needed.
According to the On3 industry ranking, the 6-foot-6, 295-pound beast is the No. 256 overall player and No. 21 offensive tackle in the country. He is also the No. 15 player in the state of Alabama.
Despite missing out on Smith, the Tigers’ 2025 class is not suffering, holding the No. 6 class in the country with 22 commits, where 13 of them are rated 90 or above according to On3.
